Introduction To A Pet Mom
My many pets
In my introduction, I figured I'd talk about the many furry (and non-furry) friends I have in my life. I've always loved all kinds of animals. Growing up we had dogs, cats, fish, a turtle, mice, hamsters, a couple rats, and I was extremely close to convincing my mom to let us get ferrets, which she didn't give in sadly. My house was definitely always full and there were lots of critters crawling around. Technically at the moment, my only animal baby is a snake, but I count my family's and boyfriend's pets as my babies too, so I also have a pit bull, a beautiful fluffy white cat, a scruffy little puppy, and a golden retriever puppy, as well as some mice, and I love all of them so much.
My snake's name is Loki. I got her around the end of the summer last year, and she is a royal python, which is a type of ball python that is native to Africa. Most ball pythons you get from stores are royal python. Snakes are not the most affectionate, but I like to let her chill out over my shoulders or curled up in my pockets if I have them and say she's "cuddling" with me. I got her from a pet store, which I know isn't the best, but the pet store didn't know how old she was. Guessing from her length, which is about thirteen inches, I would say she's a little over a year old. The picture I'm going to show is one my sister took while we were feeding Loki, there is no blood, and also it is not one of my sister's mice, I got them from a snake food breeder, but it is one of the clearest photos I have of her without my face in it.

My mom's dog, a pit bull, is named Blu. He is a blue nose pit and we got him my senior year of high school. He is one of the smartest dogs I have ever met and honestly I feel like our relationship is kind of like a relationship between siblings. He loves to mess with me and will "argue" with me behind my mom's back, always getting real quiet when she comes into the room. My mom is still very adamant that I am his favorite person. My favorite thing is when I come back after staying at my boyfriend's house for a few days and he has little "pit fits" where he sprints around the house because he's so excited to see me. Here is a photo of him from last March.

The other three pets, the two puppies and the cat are my boyfriend's and his roommate's. The scruffy puppy's name is Kevin and my boyfriend's roommate got him from one of his friends. He's super rambunctious and loves to bite me. He doesn't like cuddling too much, because it takes away from playtime, but my favorite thing to do is scoop him up and hold him like a baby and he'll be still for a few seconds and look up at me with the most adorable puppy eyes. It's the most adorable thing. The cat me and my boyfriend found on the street last week. He was eating food off the ground and we lured him into our house with some lunchmeat. It took about half a day and he already is acting like he owns the place. My boyfriend thought to name him Benimaru, which is a video game character. The final puppy actually used to belong to my boyfriend's parents but they couldn't take care of her anymore so she moved in yesterday. She is a golden retriever puppy and her name is Nala, and she is super sweet. I haven't known her long enough to have any special memories with her, but I'm very fond of her all the same. I don't have any pictures of these guys without me or my boyfriend in it, which I'm not comfortable putting in here, so sadly I can't show them off. However, these are all my animal friends at the moment, and I love all of them very much.

Hi Charley! Wow I love all of your pets! While I have not and don't think I could ever have a pet snake, it is clear that Loki is a lucky girl. I love how you said Blu will "argue" with you behind your Mom's back, that is so adorable! I don't have any pets of my own but my parents have a Chiweenie dog named Ajax who is so tiny and adorable, and they also have a cat named Marlowe and then my brother has a cat named Toby, short for October as he is a black cat. I love how you have grown up around animals! Good luck in class!
ReplyDeleteHi Charly!
ReplyDeleteWow, I thought that we have a lot of pets - right now we have three labs and two horses, although the horses do not live at our house. We live in a suburban neighborhood, so we have to board them. But you guys blow us out of the water! All of your pets seem so cool and fun apart from the snake.. I do not think I could sleep with that in the house. Props to you!
Hi Charley! I am so amazed by the number of pets you own – I honestly think its cool! I was in awe that you have a pet snake! I don’t have any pets of my own – but when I’m older I would love to have my own dog! I am so inspired by all your furry friends! I hope you have an amazing semester ahead of you!
ReplyDeleteHey Charley!
ReplyDeleteThat's a ton of pets. I'm not sure that I could handle taking care of that many, but it sounds like you really love your pets and that they love you too, so I'm glad that all of you have each other.
Also, I just recently started watching Hunter x Hunter, so I appreciate the Gon profile picture.
Wow Charley! That is a lot of pets! Such a good variety too. I cannot imagine having a pet snake. They scare me too much! That is such a cute picture of Blue. I wonder since you grew up with animals, are you interested in a career within that field? I recently got a puppy and cannot imagine having to take care of that many! Goodluck on your journey as a pet mom! I wish you nothing but the best!
ReplyDeleteHey Charley! Thanks so much for sharing about your animal babies, I'm honestly pretty jealous. I don't have any animals of my own right now, and my whole childhood my parents wouldn't let us have any pets. Then, thanksgiving break of my freshman year of college my mom decided to save a puppy one of her friends found wandering. That's Pepper, and the next summer they rescued Luna. I love them both so dearly but I think I'll always be bitter that they literally waited until I moved out to finally get pets. I can't wait to have my own someday, when I no longer am renting.
ReplyDeleteHi Charley! Loved your post! I have always loved pets ever since I was little. I currently have three dogs two German Shepards and one Maltese. Wow that is very cool that you have a pet snake! I I personally do not think I could have a pet snake but its so cool you do! Your dog Blu is adorable!
ReplyDeleteHey Charley!
ReplyDeleteThat is a lot of animals under one roof! I recently became friends with someone, and it just so turns out that she has two pet ferrets. I like all animals, but I do not think I could have a pet snake. I would be afraid that it would bite me. The picture you have of Blu is so adorable! I love how passionate you are about all of your pets that you have. I recently got my first pet last year. He is a yorkie named Milo. I cannot wait to add another fur baby to my family.
Oh, this is so very cool about all your pets (direct and indirect), Charley! How wonderful! And I've always wanted to have a ferret... a friend of mine a gazillion years ago in college had a pet ferret, and it was the most fascinating beautiful little creature. I am glad you were able to rescue the street cat! The cats we've had have all been strays who were dumped in the woods where we live... we don't have a cat right now, but I am sure some other cat needing a home will come find us eventually. The animals need us, and we need them! I hope you will enjoy the animal stories that will come up as part of the reading for class this semester. :-)
ReplyDeleteHey Charley, that's crazy just how many animals you have had throughout your life. I think the pet snake is so cool. I always wanted one but my mom is terrified of snakes so I was never able to get one. I was stuck with dogs and cats growing up but I loved them just as equally. I think pets are great companions.
ReplyDeleteHello Charley! Wow that is a lot of animals! I find it very fascinating. I would be interested to learn more about what you feed many of these less common household pets. I had a cat growing up and now I have a small dog so my experience with pets has been very stereotypical and easy. Pets are great companions and seems like you love them. Thanks for sharing!
