Reading Notes: Tiny Tales from the Ramayana, Part A
For this week I read through part A of the Tiny Tales From the Ramayana by Laura Gibbs. I really liked how simply the stories were laid out, and the Ramayana tale is very interesting. Some things I would like to take from this story to apply to my own were the excellent foreshadowing and the descriptions under the photos which help add to the background lore associated with the Ramayana.

Part A - Tiny Tales from the Ramayana
Main Characters:
Vishrava: Brahmin (holy man) who loves knowledge and the gods.
Kaikasi: Vishrava's wife, and a rakshasi who loves gold and blood.
Dashagriva: later called Ravana, Vishrava's firstborn son, when he was born there were many bad omens and he grew up to terrorize earth and the gods.
Rama: Son of King Dasharatha, a reincarnation of Vishnu, who agreed to make Rama his avatar in order to defeat Ravana, whose only weakness is humans.
Sita: Rama's wife and Ravana vowed that she will be his wife because she cooks so well. Also a reincarnation of Vedavati, a woman who was dedicated to Vishnu and who Ravana tried to make be his wife. After she escaped she threw herself into a fire and curse Ravana that she would be "reborn for his destruction".
Key plot elements I like:
The characters are connected very well and I like how everyone has a purpose, even before they were born. Also by telling stories of the side characters, like Vedavati who reincarnates as Sita, it gives more background to the story and foreshadows very well that Ravana will be defeated in the end.
