Growth Mindset: Share the Mindset of Personal Growth
(Posted on the Growth Mindset course page, from Cheezburger)
I knew immediately that I wanted to talk about this topic for the Growth Mindset extra credit because I have actually been talking with my boyfriend a lot about personal growth. I'm going to get a little personal, but one thing I struggle with a lot is having a strong will and standing up for myself. I have been pushed around a lot and am coming to a place where I'm trying to grow to become a stronger person. Just last night I was talking to him and one thing that he talked about that really stuck out to me was just about being confident in your decisions and also knowing when you need to take advice from people.
I have done a lot of things that I had no interest or desire to do, just because I was expected to do it. My boyfriend was talking to me about that and basically, the gist of his advice is that nobody knows what is best for you. You have to reflect inward and decide what drives you and then just keep moving forward. If you change your mind later, it's okay. If something goes wrong and you have to adapt, it's okay. Basically just learning that we're so young, and we have so much time to learn and grow as people that you don't need to rush it.
Another big part of what he was saying was knowing when you probably should or should not take advice from people. I big problem I have is listening to people who do nothing but tear me down constantly. My boyfriend basically said listen to what people say but also think about what they are saying, how they are saying it, and if it seems like they are trying to influence you to do a certain thing.
Basically, our whole conversation was about trying to learn and understand yourself in order to be confident in your decisions so that other people can't just bully you into living a certain way.
